"For father, mother, king, or brother,

This foul deed has different names.

Done to one’s kin or to another,

The worms will banquet all the same."

Whispers in dark places tell of witches in Blackwater Swamp who destroy their enemies from afar, return life to the dead, and possess a priceless statue set with a sapphire the size of a grape. Those who seek to treat with the hags or take their treasures by force should take care not to be caught in their treacheries.

Night's Plutonian Shore is a short adventure for Shadowdark RPG designed to be dropped into a larger campaign for parties of levels 1-3 who seek great treasure, want to harm or destroy a powerful enemy with dark magic, or hope to resurrect a fallen PC or ally. Any one of these things will come at a cost, and achieving all three is impossible.

This adventure includes:

  • Eighteen "rooms" spread across two levels: the Blackwater Swamp and the twisting warrens below.
  • Two original maps.
  • Stats for three new monsters: the Bog Zombie, the Murder of Crows, and the Guardian Skull.
  • A powerful new magic item: the Clay Body.
  • Five NPCs for your players to befriend or destroy.

Night's Plutonian Shore was inspired by works of Edgar Allen Poe and  “The Sapphire Goddess” by Nictzin Dyalhis. It uses public domain artwork from Edouard Manet (1832-1883) and Christian Egenolff (1502-1555), as well as original maps by Colin O'Connor.

This product was created for the Weird Tales Shadowdark Game Jam, but was not submitted, as explained within.
